A great weekend

This last weekend was really great. And very eventful. Friday night we had a performance at BYU's version of Amazing Race, and then afterwards we went to a masquerade party. I definitely won the masquerade contest (I wore a Jabbawockeez mask and danced around a bit... ha). As a prize I got $10 at Sammy's in Provo and VIP status for the Spark party Saturday night. In the day on Saturday, Club Style was invited to participate in this "Get Our Kids Moving Event" in Salt Lake City to promote health and wellness. That was just kind of weird. The ladies that were running it were these somewhat scary cutthroat "Do our workout!" ladies. We drove all the way up to Capitol hill, where the flyer they sent us told us to go, just to find out nothing was there. So we called these ladies, and they said they had moved it to Valley Fair Mall and they sent us the flyer with that info. FALSE. They did not. It was kind of ridiculous. ha. But anyway, we get there, and it was going to start an hour later than when they told us. Boo. So they said we could perform after this marching band so while we were waiting we reviewed our routines and formations and things. Anyway, long story short, they ended up forgetting about us. So we just left and went to Salt Lake and got Belgian waffles and frites at In Bruges (which, by the way, if you haven't gone you MUST) and made a music video. The music video:

It ended up being a great day. And that night we all went to the Spark party. Which was great. We had a blast. Monday a few of us went to Thriller in Salt Lake, which is always great. Anyway, it was a great weekend. Now I have one more midterm in an hour and I still don't feel prepared. So I'm going to study for that now. I hope you are all great!

P.s. I love this song and I think you will too. :)

Fall is my favorite

I love fall. It is my most favorite time of year, with the leaves changing and the temperature dropping to just right, the occasional rain storms that smell oh so delicious... it's just a great time of year.
This weekend I got to get out and really appreciate the greatness of fall. I went up to the cabin on Friday to spend the night with the fam. Dad and I went on a long four wheeling ride and I got some great pictures of the fall colors up there:

When I came back to Provo on Saturday, I went up to the "Fork Fest" in American Fork. It's this music festival with a bunch of local bands. I went especially to hear my friend's band "Book on Tapeworm." They are absolutely great. Here's one of their songs they performed:

My friend is the cellist. You can't see her in this video, but you can hear her. They have a few more of their songs on YouTube if you want to look them up. I love them. They need to be famous.
After we listened to them, we went and caught the end of Joshua James' performance. He's great too. We had a lot of fun and most definitely rocked out:

Ben and Jon's "too much rock for one hand." or three for that matter... ha.

A week of fun.

Last week was BYU's Homecoming week, which means a week of some fun to coincide with the non-fun that midterms bring. Club Style was asked to participate in a few events last week and it was a grand ole time. We performed in Brigham Square during the noonday activities and marched in the Homecoming parade. It was a great time. I love those crazy kids.

Also part of Homecoming week, they put on "BYU True Blue Football" and they have a bunch of slip n' slides on Helaman Field with blue foam. SO fun. This was the first year I had done it because I always had to work or something in times past. I wish I would have taken a camera with me, but it probably would have gotten ruined since it was first raining and then I had blue foam all over me that was hard to get rid of. But man, it was fun. Here are some pictures of what it is like. I borrowed some of my friend's because like I said, I didn't have my camera. ha. SO fun.

I looked just like this. I had to run to teach looking somewhat like smurf after just a really quick shower. ha:

Once again, this is open for discussion.

As I'm sure you know, Halloween is approaching. Far too quickly if you ask me. The closer it gets, the more freaked I get. I do not have any ideas for a killer Halloween costume! And I vow to never go as a gangster or pirate ever again! (Because that's what I've been for like the past 8 years). I need ideas dang it!

A few of my friends have had ideas for parties we're going to. One group (Club Style) wants to go as the Glee Club. If this actually happens, I have been deemed Brittany, the dumb cheerleader. I like to say they gave that assignment to me because she is the greatest dancer on the show, not based on her I.Q. I wouldn't even mind going as her. She IS my favorite character on Glee. Maybe I'll go as her in the "Gaga" episode:
I think she's fabulous. I wonder where I could get a silver lobster like that...

Another group (the Art History nerds) all want to go as artists. Or 1 artist. Andy Warhol. Brilliant and ironic, no? Considering he implemented the consumer culture in his art with the often use of mass produced products or processes. Take his most famous work, for example, the Marilyn Monroe silk screens. We were thinking it would be funny if we all go as Andy Warhol, but everyone be a different color. ha! Funny. I give you Andy Warhol:
If Andy doesn't work out, we would all just go as our favorite artists. I would go as Vincent, of course. Vincent Van Gogh, that is. He was a red head too, you know:

But, in the case that these group ideas don't work and they fall apart (which they more often than not do), I need ideas for a solo costume. Stat. So kids, I wanna see that number before "comments" explode. Please if you would be so kind...

I like this:

One of my professors posted THIS on her Art History Salon blog a while back. Just one look at the title and you'll know why I loved it so much. It's very enlightening. I love it when my two loves come together! :)

Here's the video she's talking about. It's a bit eerie, but brilliant. And very relatable to the old master Girodet's work. Also, it's one of my favorite songs right now:

I love my job(s).

I love teaching hip hop. A lot. It's so fun and these kids I teach learn so quick. I've been teaching my two older classes this combo and they seem to love it. I'm proud. I feel very accomplished when I'm able to create choreography that works. Here is my latest. "Robot Remains." What do you think?

Drum roll please.

I have selected a new title! You all had marvelous suggestions and I thank you all for your input. But, after being reminded of one of my favorite quotes, I simply could not pass this title up. And the title I have chosen...
(This is where you drum roll...)
LIVE LIVING.
This expression comes from the book The Art Spirit by the brilliant Robert Henri. Robert Henri was an inspired artist and teacher from the early twentieth century. The Art Spirit is a collection of his words, teachings, and letters and has quite spectacular words of advice not only for artists, but things anyone can apply to every day life. I read this book in my American Art class last semester and most definitely felt inspired by it. I saw it sitting in my pile of books the other night and decided to take a study break to enjoy its words once again. So, the quote I came across again and remembered that I love so much is this one:

"The reason so many artists have lived to great age and have been so young at great age is that to such extent they have lived living, whereas most people live dying."

Awesome right?
Why should we be the "most people" that live dying? I don't know about you, but I would like to be young at an old age.
So here in this blog I will continue to record stories, inspirations, thoughts, commentaries, tidbits, and anything else I find notable that I encounter as I go about living my life to live it.

To you I say, LIVE LIVING!

Because who wants to live dying?

Suggestions?

Hey blog peeps. I need ideas. "For what?" you ask. I need ideas for a new title of my blog. After always seeing great titles like "Bagpipes on Bridge Street," "Love and be Loved," "More than just words," "The Fair Peacock," "im a free bird," etc. etc., I have come to the conclusion that just "McKell Lyn" isn't going to cut it in this world of exceedingly exciting blog titles. All the ideas I have come up with are just not that great, and my creativity is being used up elsewhere. So, in an attempt to make my blog more exciting, and somewhat awe-inspiring, I need your suggestions for a title. Please leave any ideas you have in the comments. Meanwhile, I will continue brainstorming and attempt to use what creativity I have left in this brain of mine. I thank you for your help.

Also, just to share and to prove that I really am utilizing my creativity skills elsewhere and not just making up excuses because I have a lack thereof, here is a video of some of my latest choreography. I had to post it on our Club website so it's more for review purposes than anything. But, here it be.

AND, in case you didn't follow my link I posted on my last post, here is the newest trailer for the first part of the last Harry Potter movie. I think I've watched it a total of about one thousand and eighty two times now? Seriously, I'm so excited. I don't think I can even convey how excited I am. Have you read the Harry Potter books? And if not, WHO ARE YOU AND WHY THE HECK NOT?! I am about halfway through the fourth one now and it is sooo great. J.K. Rowling is pure brilliance. Read them if you haven't because you will regret it forever if you don't. Not only because you'll be missing out on something great, but because if you don't I'll bug you about it for the rest of your mortal life. Just do it. I know you'll want to crap your pants after watching this trailer because you'll be so excited (I only say that because I know I did...), but just hold your hippogriffs (mythological creature from, indeed, Harry Potter). There are only 53 days, 2 hours, and 30 minutes left until it's release. Will I be at the midnight premiere? You better believe it.

ALSO, The Amazing Race started back up again today. Oh how I love this show. Let's just say I laughed really really hard when this happened on tonight's episode:
I probably shouldn't have laughed. Heaven knows I wouldn't want a watermelon catapulted into my face. But, I did laugh. Because it wasn't my face. And who would have thought that was coming? I love surprises.
